(WPRI) Concerns of Listeria have temporarily closed down the deli counter at the Stop Shop store on Quaker Lane in Warwick.
A Stop Shop spokesperson confirmed the closure to Eyewitness News, saying it was recently discovered that deli sliced meat and cheese sold at the location between Jan. 18 and Feb. 2 may have been exposed to Listeria. Dept. of Health (RIDOH) said the agency has not yet definitively linked any illnesses to the Stop Shop deli, but it been closed out of an abundance of caution.
did get contacted by a consumer with a concern about an illness, and that initiated an investigation that resulted in us doing some testing at different locations throughout the state, Wendelken explained. on some testing that we did at the deli at Stop Shop, that prompted this alert that going out to consumers. who purchased meats during this time may contact the Warwick store management.
extremely important that if anyone purchased those products from the deli in that time frame, that they not consume them, Wendelken said.
RIDOH said it is working with Stop Shop and did the testing at its lab.
